DiGeronimo Architects provided architectural services to design a temporary Pedestrian Bridge Extension called the Liberty Street Bridge, as part of the reconstruction work at the World Trade Center (WTC)

The Bridge’s span and height resolves construction vehicle clearance issues and permits construction access form the West Side Highway (Rte 9A) to the WTC re-construction site.

DiGeronimo’s design incorporates pre-ordered and delivered materials. The temporary bridge spans Rte. 9A at Cedar Street, and incorporates a pre-ordered elevator. Architectural work includes updating to meet current code requirements and redesign of the structural system to accommodate enclosures for the elevator shaft.

DiGeronimo uses Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to coordinate structural and architectural drawings. BIM technology helps our architects and engineers identify and resolve the following design conflicts:

  • Structural bracing that interfered with the exterior curtain wall as designed
  • Elevator shaft enclosure assembly conflicted with structural members
  • Elevator code compliance issues

Early identification of problems allowed designers to relocate and modify design and structural elements before construction, saving the client time and money.
